Cashew Price per kg
Cashew kernel prices per kg vary sharply by grade — larger whole grades like W240 command a premium over W320 and far more than broken grades.
The price of cashew per kg depends on the product and grade. Raw cashew nuts (in shell) are far cheaper than kernels. Among kernels, larger whole white grades (W180, W240) sell at a premium, W320 is the widely-traded benchmark, and broken grades (splits, pieces) sell for less. Retail, roasted and flavoured cashews cost more than bulk kernels. Because kernels are traded globally, the per-kg price moves with the market — treat any figure as indicative.
This page does not publish a current price, and that is deliberate. Cashew kernel prices move every season and a figure written into a web page is wrong within months — which is exactly how the internet fills up with confidently stated prices from three years ago. What does not move is the relationship between grades. Learn the ratios and you can price any grade the moment you have one live quote.
What each grade is worth, relative to W320
| Product | Typical ratio to W320 | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Raw cashew nut, in shell | 0.15–0.25× | It takes roughly 4.3 kg of RCN to make 1 kg of saleable kernel, so the per-kg comparison is not like for like — see the note below. |
| W180 | 1.25–1.40× | Largest standard grade, thinnest supply, strongest retail demand |
| W210 | 1.15–1.25× | Jumbo — premium retail and gifting |
| W240 | 1.05–1.15× | Premium mid, the usual step up from the benchmark |
| W320 | 1.00× (benchmark) | Highest volume traded worldwide, so it is what everything else is quoted against |
| W450 / W500 | 0.85–0.95× | Smaller wholes, thinner market |
| Scorched whole (SW) | 0.80–0.90× of the same white count | Sound and identical in size, discoloured by drying heat |
| Splits and butts | 0.70–0.85× | Whole in cross-section, so above pieces |
| Large white pieces | 0.55–0.70× | The ingredient trade |
| Small pieces and baby bits | 0.40–0.55× | Pastes, toppings, confectionery filler |
Ratios, not prices. They hold across origins and across years far better than any absolute figure, but they widen when supply of a particular grade is short. Get one live W320 quote and the rest of the column follows.
Where to get the actual number
For raw nuts
our raw cashew nut price page carries dated farm-gate and CNF figures with the observation month stated, plus the difference between the two bases — which is the mistake that costs new processors the most.
For kernels
the INC and IndexMundi links below track kernel prices. Vietnamese and Indian exporter associations publish weekly indications, and a broker will quote you for nothing.
For your own costing
what matters is not the market price but your cost per kilogram of saleable kernel — RCN cost divided by production KOR, plus processing. See the calculator.
Reading a kernel quote
Four things change what a per-kg number actually means, and a quote that omits any of them is not comparable to one that includes them.
| What to check | Why it changes the price |
|---|---|
| Incoterm | FOB origin, CNF destination and DDP are three different numbers for the same cargo. Freight from Vietnam to Europe alone is a material share. |
| Grade tolerance | A W320 contract normally permits a small percentage of adjacent grades and of brokens. A tight tolerance costs more and is worth it for retail packing. |
| Packing | 11.34 kg vacuum tins cost more than 10 kg pouches, and the difference is in the price per kilogram of kernel, not shown separately. |
| Crop year and shipment window | New-crop and old-crop kernels do not trade at the same level, and a distant shipment window carries a different risk premium. |
Everything on this page is market context. TTQ manufactures cashew processing machinery — we do not trade kernels and we do not quote kernel prices. If you want machinery priced, tell us your capacity and we will scope it.
