Cashew Nut Roasting Machine — Even roast, edge to edge
FIG.V1 // ROAST Ø EVEN ROAST
Engineered & built by TTQ
What it does

The TTQ Cashew Nut Roasting Machine roasts kernels evenly using controlled heat and continuous or batch tumbling, producing uniform colour and crunch for salted, seasoned and snack products. Temperature and time are regulated to avoid scorching, and the machine pairs with seasoning, sugar-coating and pouch-packing for value-added lines. Electric, gas and shell-fired heating options are available.

Why this machine

Why salt does the work, not the heat

Even roast

Continuous tumbling roasts every kernel to uniform colour and crunch.

Controlled temperature

Regulated heat and time avoid scorching and hold a consistent roast.

Batch or continuous

Batch drums for flexibility, continuous roasters for volume.

Value-add ready

The base stage for salted, seasoned and snack cashews.

Roasting is optional on a cashew line and it is where margin gets added rather than protected. A graded white kernel is a commodity; a roasted, salted or flavoured one sells into retail at a multiple of that. The machine below is a rotary drum roaster sized for commercial batches without requiring a dedicated operator.

Specification

FeatureSpecificationWhat it means in practice
Capacity50 kg/batchCommercial batch volume without industrial floor space
Power1 HP (0.75 kW), 220V single phaseSingle-phase, so it installs anywhere without a three-phase supply
Dimensions1.5 × 1.0 × 1.4 mFits alongside an existing packing line rather than needing its own bay
Roasting time10–15 min/batchFour to six batches an hour, so throughput scales by running longer, not bigger
Fuel consumption2–3 kg gas/hourLow enough that fuel is not the deciding cost
Material90% stainless steelDurable, hygienic and corrosion-resistant on every kernel-contact surface
ControlsDigital temperature display, auto shut-offRepeatable results between batches and between operators
Workforce1 personOne person can load, monitor and unload

The 50 kg batch is 15–20 kg of cashew in 30–35 kg of salt, so four to six batches an hour is 60–120 kg of nuts per hour — a value-add line rather than bulk export volume. Throughput scales by running longer, not by loading heavier.

02

How rotary drum roasting works

Kernels tumble inside a rotating drum over a controlled heat source. The rotation is the point: every kernel spends the same time against the hot surface, so colour develops evenly instead of scorching on one side. Salt-medium drum roasting — where kernels roast in a bed of salt rather than on bare metal — gives more even heat transfer and better flavour development than an oven, which heats the outside faster than the centre.

03

What roasting buys you

Margin

roasted and flavoured retail product sells well above bulk kernel prices, and the equipment cost is small against the uplift.

Product range

salted, spiced, honey-roasted and flavoured variants all start from the same machine and the same kernel.

Shelf appeal

roasting develops the colour and aroma retail buyers expect; raw kernels do not sell themselves in a packet.

Use for imperfect grades

broken and scorched grades that will never fetch whole-white prices are often better roasted and flavoured than sold as brokens.

Shelf life

roasting reduces residual moisture, though it does not replace proper vacuum or nitrogen packing.

04

Not only cashews

The same drum handles almond, peanut, macadamia, pistachio, walnut and sunflower seeds. For a processor with a seasonal cashew supply that matters more than it sounds — the machine earns through the off-season instead of standing idle.

05

Where it fits

After grading

roast a known grade, not a mixed one. Different kernel sizes take colour at different rates.

Before packing

kernels must cool fully before vacuum sealing, or condensation forms inside the pack.

Alongside the main line

roasting is a batch process on a continuous line, so it usually runs as a parallel value-add stream rather than in sequence.

Scaling

throughput scales by adding drums rather than by buying a bigger one, which keeps batch control intact.

06

Maintenance and safety

Weekly drum cleaning

oil and salt residue build up and affect both flavour and heat transfer.

Check the temperature probe

a drifting probe is the usual cause of batches that come out inconsistent for no obvious reason.

Test the auto shut-off

it is a safety device, and safety devices that are never tested are assumptions.

Watch gas connections

routine inspection of hoses and fittings, and adequate ventilation around the burner.

Let it cool before cleaning

obvious, and the most common cause of burns around a roaster.

Scale and scope

This is a commercial batch roaster, not an industrial continuous roaster. Scaled-down variants exist for small-batch and speciality producers. Roasting is a value-add stage — the core economics of a cashew plant are set upstream at shelling and peeling. See sugar coating machine for the flavouring stage that usually follows it.

On the line

Where it fits in the process

A value-add stage after grading and packing — roasts kernels for salted and snack products, feeding seasoning and retail packing.

Answers
