In short

W240 and W320 are both premium white whole cashew grades, distinguished by size. W240 runs about 220–240 kernels per pound and W320 about 300–320 — so W240 kernels are noticeably larger and sell at a premium. W320 is smaller and cheaper but is the most liquid, highest-demand grade globally. Neither is universally "better": W240 earns more per kg where large kernels are valued (gifting, premium retail), while W320 sells fastest and suits most bulk and industrial buyers.

How to choose

If your raw nuts and processing yield a good share of large wholes, targeting W240 can lift average revenue per kg. If you want the fastest, most reliable sales, W320 is the safe default. Most processors produce a mix and grade precisely so each kernel goes into its best-paying class.

Yield note

Grade mix is set upstream: good raw-nut grading, gentle shelling and dry peeling protect the large whole kernels that qualify for W240.

Answers

Frequently asked questions

Is W240 better than W320?
W240 is larger and sells at a premium, but W320 is more liquid and in higher demand. The better grade depends on your target market.
Why is W240 more expensive?
Because the kernels are larger — fewer per pound — and large whole cashews command a premium in premium retail and gifting markets.
Can one plant produce both grades?
Yes — a grading machine separates kernels into W240, W320 and other classes automatically, so a single line produces the full mix.
