What separates a real manufacturer from a reseller
Specialisation and years
look for 10–15 years focused specifically on cashew equipment. General food machinery builders rarely understand what CNSL does to a machine or why nut grading determines cut quality.
In-house engineering
a real R&D function means designs improve between generations and custom work is possible. Resellers cannot modify what they did not design.
Own manufacturing
visit if you can. What you see on a shop floor tells you more than any brochure: welding quality, material stock, whether machines are assembled or just boxed.
Documented quality control
testing before shipment, not after installation.
Customer references you can actually call

Trial processing

Evaluate by equipment category, not overall
Cutting and shelling
the most critical. Poor shelling equipment caps your whole-kernel rate permanently, and no downstream machine recovers it. Ask specifically about blade metallurgy, adjustment range and whole-kernel rate on your nut size.
Peeling
combines mechanical and pneumatic action. Ask about white-whole percentage and breakage rate, and whether the figures assume properly dried and rewetted kernels.
Boilers and steam
must handle CNSL safely while holding temperature. Safety certification is not a formality here.
Colour sorting
largely an optics and software problem rather than a mechanical one, so the strong suppliers here are often different companies from the strong mechanical builders.
Support infrastructure is the real differentiator
Installation and commissioning
on-site, with engineers who have done it before, not just delivery to your gate.
Operator training
normal operation, adjustment and calibration, troubleshooting, and safe shutdown. Budget time for it.
Maintenance training
preventive schedules and the repairs your own team can do without a visit.
Spare parts
ask what is held in stock, what the lead time is on a shaft or a blade set, and whether parts ship from the factory or a regional depot.
Response time
get it in writing. A 48-hour answer in February is worth more than a discount in December.
Remote diagnostics
increasingly standard, and it converts a site visit into a phone call.
Individual machines or a turnkey line
Some manufacturers supply complete plants rather than machines. The advantage is real: capacities match across stages, the automation level is consistent, and there is one party responsible when the line underperforms rather than five suppliers pointing at each other. The trade-off is less freedom to pick the best machine in each category and a larger single commitment. For a first plant, turnkey usually wins on risk alone; for an expansion where you already know your process, machine-by-machine buying can be better value.
