What it does

The TTQ Air Compressor supplies the clean, dry compressed air that automatic cashew machines depend on — driving the air jets on peelers, the ejector nozzles on colour sorters, and part of the automatic vacuum packing line — shelling and cutting are mechanical and use none. Sized to the line’s air demand and fitted with drying and filtration for food-grade cleanliness, it is a foundational utility for any automated plant.

The air compressor is the piece of equipment most often left off a quote and most often undersized. On a cashew line it does not power an optional accessory — the peeling machine physically cannot separate testa from kernel without it, and pneumatic conveying stops with it. Treat it as part of the peeler, not as a workshop tool.

Add any other pneumatic equipment running at the same time — conveying, ejection on a colour sorter, packing — before choosing a rating. Undersizing does not announce itself as a fault; it shows up as inconsistent peeling.

Rotary screw or reciprocating piston

Rotary screw

designed for continuous duty, quieter, steadier delivery, better efficiency over a full shift. Costs 30–40% more up front and is the right choice for a production line.

Reciprocating piston

cheaper, tolerant of intermittent use, but not intended to run all day. On a continuous line it wears fast and delivers less consistent pressure.

The practical rule

if the compressor will run more than a few hours at a stretch, buy screw. The initial saving on a piston unit is recovered by the electricity bill and the replacement cycle.

Air treatment is not optional

Dryer

compressed air carries moisture. On a food-contact stage that moisture lands on kernels, and it also degrades separation performance.

Filters

oil carry-over from the compressor is a contamination risk on a food product. Filtration is a food-safety control, not a nicety.

Receiver tank

smooths demand peaks so the compressor is not cycling constantly, which extends its life and steadies delivery pressure.

Distribution piping

sized for the flow and sloped for condensate drainage. Undersized piping produces a pressure drop that looks like an undersized compressor.

Budget the system

compressor, dryer, filters, receiver and piping together, not the compressor alone.

Keeping it running

  • Drain condensate daily — water accumulates in the receiver and will otherwise travel down the line to the kernels.
  • Change filters on schedule — a blocked filter causes a pressure drop that gets misdiagnosed as a compressor fault.
  • Check for leaks — leaks are the largest avoidable energy cost on a compressed air system, and they are usually audible when the line is quiet.
  • Monitor delivery pressure at the machine, not at the compressor. The difference between the two is the diagnosis.
  • Ventilate the compressor room — intake air temperature affects both output and component life.

Over-specifying the air system is a common and expensive mistake, because the shelling stage is widely assumed to need air. It does not.

Match the compressor to peeling head count: 30 HP for one head, 50 for two, 75 for three, 100 HP for four. Colour sorters can be plugged into the plant system instead of running their own compressor, but they do not have to be.

Why does a cashew line need an air compressor?
Mainly for peeling: compressed air is what lifts the loosened testa clear of the kernel. The automatic vacuum packing line uses a small amount, and colour sorters use it for their ejectors — though sorters usually arrive with their own compressor and can be run either way. Shelling and cutting are mechanical and use no air at all, so size the compressor against your peeling head count.
